Back Packing

Picture
Picture
Back Packing is a fun way to spend some quality time with the dogs while getting out into the countryside and getting off the beaten track.  The dog carries their own supplies (and some of yours!) in their own back pack.  Both Chena and Sika have enjoyed back packing, and Chena has completed her AMCA Working Pack Dog Certificate (WPD).  Hopefully Sika will also start working towards hers in the coming months and Troy will start training when old enough.

The WPD requires the dog to carry a third of it's body weight over a series of walking expeditions, with or without overnight camps.  Chena completed her WPD over a series of 4 x 10-11 mile walks.  There are also more advanced levels of Pack Dog certification, as with the other working disciplines - WPDA and WPDX.
